Healing Hands of Time

Door sighed worriedly, standing next to Alex and threading her fingers into his. "Do you think they'll be found?"

Alex shrugged. "Who's to say? I hope so."

"We all hope so, I think..." Door's gaze drifted from person to person, hoping to catch a glance. But there were just so many people....

A loud commotion caught Aislin's attention, and she turned her head much like a prairie dog.

"It's them!" someone was yelling. "Grab them!"

Door's breath caught in her throat as she looked towards the sound of the commotion. "Is it...?"

"Move," Thatch ordered, pushing his way past several people.

Aislin started after him, but Ariel grabbed her wrist. "Stay here." she ordered.

And for once, Aislin didn't talk back.

Thatch moved faster, ignoring cries of offense from people he pushed past. He would NOT. Let. That man. Get away.

Aislin could see Flit balancing on the top of the drawbridge, the little blonde hanging on for dear life, unable to climb to the very top. If she wasn't quick, the fast-approaching stone would crush her hands.

Or she'd fall.

Neither option was too great.

Door saw it, too, and gaped. "She's going to...!" It had never occured to her before, but even though she hated the woman, she didn't want to see this happen to her...

Aislin covered her mouth with her hand, eye's widening. "Dear Goddesses..."

Thatch broke free of the crowd, dashing full-tilt towards the bridge, just as Flit pulled Jetta up. "NO!" he yelled, crouching to grab a rock to fling. "Get BACK here!"

Alex watched with disbelief. He wasn't sure what to think...but Jetta's scream as the gate closed caused him to wince.

The scream did it. It was like watching her fall out the window all over again.
Door gave an involuntary, tiny shriek of terror, eyes going wide as she shook her head.

"I didn't think--really--" Alex said, almost inaudible.

Door turned, burying her face in Alex's shoulder. "Oh, no. Din, no..."


Thatch stared up at the closed drawbride, breathing heavily. He was too late. That man had gotten away.

Again.

Aislin tore her eyes away from the scene, suddenly sick. Ariel felt her heart wrench, the image of their escape fresh on her mind.

The way he'd looked at her, how he refused to let her go. And her scream...

Lowering her eyes, she fought off a wave of illness.

Door swayed, took several deep, steadying breaths, and risked a look back at the bridge.

Fully closed, silent, stoic. Keeping everyone in...

...Or out...

Aislin dashed toward Thatch, frowning deeply. "Are they--"

Thatch didn't answer, didn't give any sign that he had heard her until he spoke. "Are they gone? Out of the town, yes. Are they alive? That waits to be known..."

Aislin stared at the drawbridge, face grim.
