Teh Boifday!

{{{ARGH! I thought I had posted this yesterday. Technically, it happened Sunday, the 19th, but I WASN'T THERE THAT DAY SO IT COUNTS!}}

Streamers.
Balloons.
Banners.
Frantic people running about.

Could only mean one thing.

"I still don't know how you talked the principal into letting us use the entire gym for Fell's birthday," Ari mused, stepping back to survey her handiworked banner.

Tara shrugged, trying not to look too smug. "I'm a people person. Everyone likes me."

"Do we have a cake?" Cicero walked up to them, clipboard in hand, cat underfoot. "Everything's set except for that."

"Just ordered it," Door called from across the room. "We're good to go... I hope."

"It's up to Kadomi, now, actually," Tara grinned. "But she knows how to play things down, so I'm sure Fell won't suspect a thing."

Kad frowned, up to her elbows in grease.

"Can you hand me that spark plug?" she asked, reaching one black and bloodied hand out expectantly. She surveyed her baby with a thoughtful eye.

"Yeh." Fell nodded, rummaged through the little junk box, and handed the spark plug to Kad. "Heeeere you go."

Kad took it gratefully and stuck her hand back into the tangle of metal.

Truth be told, the motorcycle was running just fine...but she was stalling.

After a few minutes of wrestling, she sighed. "There. Think I got it. Thanks."

"Awesome. Are you gonna test her out, just to make sure, or not?" Fell had no idea, naturally, but she wanted to make sure that the bike didn't blow up or something. "You know, just to make sure it doesn't blow up or something."

Kad raised an eyebrow. "I changed a spark plug, Fell...but..."

She pondered.

"Eh, I might as well...oh, but I have some math I need to do. Can you help me with it right quick?"

She didn't exactly wait for an answer, just dug into her bag, grease and all, and pulled out her notebook, rifling through the pages.

"...Crap." she said, "Crap, crap, crap..."

[[...I have realized how terribly fond I am of compound sentences, and the frequency with which I implement them has become quite distressing.

...Dang it.]

"Uhh... sure?" Fell moved to her friend's side, peeking over her shoulder.

"I left it at school." Kad sighed, saddling her bike. "Typical."

She handed Fell a helmet. "Coming?"

"M-kay." Fell took the headgear, donned it, and sung up behind Kadomi. "Try not to kill us, though. I might need my good looks, one day."

Kad laughed, revving the engine.

"Tell me when you get some of those."

She took off, not giving Fell the chance to retort.

Fell laughed, the sound being torn away by the wind. "That hurts. More than you know."

Kadomi flashed a grin at her, the wind whipping at the wisps of hair around her face.

She leaned, turning left and toward the high school. Within minutes, they'd arrived.

"Pretty sure I left it in the gym." Kad said.

"Lemme ask a question," Fell said, unstrapping her helmet. "Why would you leave schoolwork in the gym, of all places?"

"Because I brought my math homework into the gym to do during PE. It's the end of the year; not like we do anything anyway. But then I got distracted by dodgeball...and the rest is history."

She paused "Erm...algebra."

Fell quirked a grin. "Ah, dodgeball. Very enjoyable. Especially when they pitch classes against each other."

Kadomi nodded. "Freshmen are as good as mine."

She pushed open the gym door, fighting off a grin.
