Knock on Wood

"My feelin's are hurt now," Rudy mumbled, his red face contorting into a pout. "See if I even save your life again..."

Clara grinned, then spoke aloud, "Where were you headed before your attack?"

"Anywhere and everywhere," Lorrie answered, glancing out the window with half a smile. "We weren't really headed anywhere specific."

Something flashed in Clara's eyes, but was gone in a second.

"Oh, that must be fantastic."

"Aye, it's like nuthin' ye've ever seen, lass," Syrus growled, nodding his grizzled head.

"What all things have you seen?"

The old pirate went glassy-eyed (as in, one eye. Singular.), and smiled, just a bit. "Seas so smooth ye could see heaven's face, whales an' dolphins dancin' after the Nott... Ah, it's amazin'. Really is."

Something stirred inside of Clara. "Wow..." she breathed. "That must be..."

She trailed off, thinking silently. "It sounds beautiful."

Nance nodded. "M-hm."

Lorelei glanced at Minikin, brooding. "Beautiful, yes. But also deadly."

Clara nodded solemnly. "No doubt..." she said.

"We've had better luck than some, though," Coran noted, grinning. "Considering we have, not one, but two ladies on board."

Lorrie made a face. "Lucky I don't throw you to the sharks, maybe."

"I'm sure they're both perfectly capable and competent." she noted, with a nod.

Minikin grinned at Clara, then shot a mock-dirty look at Coran.

"It's more threatening when there's words behind it," the man pointed out."

"Or a frying pan," Booth added.

Clara grinned. "Plenty of those in the kitchen, if you need one." she said to Minikin with a wink.

The child nodded, grinning, before cleaning her plate. "Thank you," she said quietly to Clara.

She smiled. "Not a problem. Let me take that."

She stacked Minkin's plate on her own and hauled it off to the kitchen.

"...Need to get to work on the Nott," Booth was arguing. "The longer she stays that was, the harder she'll be to fix!"

Rudy shook his head adamantly. "No, y'ain't. You walk on that leg o' yours, and soon you won't have one to walk on!"

Clara nodded her head. "You'll only make things worse if you strain it."

Booth glanced in an almost-annoyed manner at Clara, then shook his head. "If I don't use it, it's gonna shrivel up, and Rudy'll hafta cut it off, anyway!"

"Peg leg never hurt nobody," Syrus grated in an amused voice (hard to tell, when all the man does is growl. >.>).

Clara half-smiled. "Well, if you must work on the ship, then maybe I can help you. I know a thing or two about woodwork, believe it or not."

Booth couldn't hide his surprised gape fast enough. "Really!? I-I mean, sure you can help but... Really?"

Clara nodded. "Mm-hm. Surprised? I know I don't look like much, but I'm useful for more than just parading around beaches and hoarding all the seashells." she grinned.

"Off we go, then!" Booth tried to climb to his feet, but Rudy placed a none-too-gentle hand on his shoulder and forced him back into his seat.

"I said no, ya wooden-skulled nitwit."

Clara laughed. "Not like you can do much of anything without timber, anyway." she pointed out.

"Thar ye go, see? Just sit yer bum down, kid." Syrus grinned, showing yellow, icky teeths.
