Theif!!!!

As quietly as he could sneak around the rooftops of Castle Town searching for his lunch, Griffen DeLyre spotted the fine location to take his hardy meal.
Fred the Vendor sat at his cart selling fruits to all the hungry customers.

It was a very beautiful day in Hyrule. A clear sky with a few clouds blotted here and there, birds chirping and dogs running around the town square, the man with the beard and the bag running around saying, "I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date!" It was a perfect setting so good that an artist would be beyond inspired to paint it. The people were hustling and bustling and gaurds were positioned still to carry on their lifelong duties. A shadow of Griffen could be faintly seen on the high rooftop of one of the homes...

He hopped from building to building with grace and presicion, when suddenly - *CRASH* Griffen mistakenly hopped onto the edge of a battered and rotted rooftop. He fell with a commotion ontop of a young girl carrying a basket of goods into town....

"Geez, Louise!" she muttered, frowning deeply.

Autumn had never been much for grace herself, but this was ridiculous!

"Kindly remove yourself from my person," she said calmly, drumming her fingers on the pavement.

Griffen shot up quickly and backed away.

"My apologies. It won't happen again. Are you alright ma'am?" He said while sneaking some of her goods into his bag.

It's a mighty fine day, isn't it?

"Fair to partly cloudy." she said, watching him carefully.

"Just taking some lunch to my poor, crippled, blind grandmother. Then I'm going to read her a book. I'm the only family that ever visits her. She just stays there, alone. If I don't bring her the stuff in my bag, then I'll break her poor, sweet heart."

Autumn looked at him pointedly. "And yourself?"

Griffen looked down at his bag and looked at Autumn with sweat going down his face.

"Umm... i'm not good with people... I'm fine I guess," he said while stammering. "Do you need any help?"

Griffen then had her item from his bag in one hand, and pretend to bump her bag, sending the stolen item flying from his hand, making it look as if it came from the woman's bag...

"heheheh.... I think I got away with it this time," he thought to himself while picking up the woman's item. "I believe this fell from your bag ma'am?" He said to her with a sneaky grin of confidence.

"Oh, yes. Thanks for giving it back to me." she beamed, "I really don't have a blind, crippled grandma. I lied so I'd get it back. Oh, but don't get me wrong. I really do need all this stuff."

Autumn smiled happily, holding her back closed firmly.

Griffen stamped his foot out of anger and thought to himself, "Ack! Why did I fall for that?!"

"So, what's so important about all that stuff that you would go make up lies and make me look like and idiot?"

He looked out of the corner of his eye and saw Fred the Vendor start to back up his business and head down the road. Then, he quickly exchanged his view of Fred back to Autumn then back to Fred again, then back and forth with a look of distress carved onto his face.

Autumn shrugged, grinning.

"Well, y'see, I'm working on this invention. If all goes according to plan, it SHOULD make slices of bread all warm and crunch and brown."

"Mmmm... that sounds good.... I'll think I'll follow this girl," he thought to himself as he gave her a sly look.

"I am Griffen DeLyre and I am a traveling... ummm, rooftop hopping.... business... man? Yeah, that's it. I'm a traveling rooftop-hopping business man! Do you mind if I follow you around? I have no more business to conduct today...," He thought he was sneaky. He knew that this girl could make him some money. Then when he would get what he wanted, he will slit her throat in her sleep, and run off....

Autumn shrugged.

"Sure. I don't care. If you don't mind rats that is."

Not caring to elaborate, the girl took off towards the middle-class section of town, stopping at a storm-shelter/basement like structure.

"Is this your home? Wow... it's a lot better than mine."

Griffen stepped inside and saw all the crazy contraptions Autumn had in her facility. It was breathtaking. He knew that with all of those devices, he could pawn them and make a great profit. Once he got what he wanted, he would make his break for it and leave her in the dust. But he didn't think he was very important anyway. Why would she care if he left?

"I'm just a thief... She's very smart. I doubt she bought that traveling salesman crap. She probably knows I'm a thief! I need to get out of here as quick as I can!" He thought aloud to himself.

"Haha, excuse the mess. Housekeeping's not my strongsuit." she aplogized, "I kinda just left home. Parents think I'm wacky."

She dumped her stuff onto a work table.

"So far, no one's been interested in any of my inventions. Not all of them work, sure...but a lot of them do! Hmmm...um, just make yourself comfortable. Throw some stuff in the floor and have a seat."

"Lessee...wood...iron drawn into wires...key...What is that?...erm...matches...cheese..."

Autumn stood up straight, "Heeeeere, Corny. Here, boy!"

A rat the size of a (very) small dog skittered across the floor to her. She tossed cheese at it.

"My Din! That's the largest rat I have ever laid eyes on! And don't worry. I think your inventions are fantastic," he said while sitting on a broken device that once resembled a teakettle.

Griffen sat there trying to think up something that didn't give away his true identity, "Hey, I kinda have to tell you... I don't really have any home to go to this evening, and all the inns are booked. Do you suppose you could offer me some hospitality for the evening?"

"Uh, yeah sure," she said absently, studying the metal sheets she'd gotten from the blacksmith. "Just go with what ya feel."

Corny sniffed Griffen warily. He then proceeded to gnaw on the corner of a wooden horse that had been attached to two curved pieces of wood. It was covered with dust, and despite its bright paint, was rather dingy.

"So, if you don't mind me asking, what do you get out of all this? I mean, it looks like useless junk to me."

He kicked away the oversized rat that was nibbling at his worn out shoes.

"How droll." she muttered, removing a hammer from a nearby pouch. "If you must know, I've always been one to tinker with everything. Some of this 'junk' is pretty useful, I'm just not a marketing genius, and I already have a reputation for being a nut."

She raised her head from her blueprints. "Needless to say, I have no buyers."

"You don't? I figured this stuff could make a good profit! I would buy it if I had any money.... OOP! I mean- uhh.... I would love to buy it, but I just have no use for any of these items..."

He quickly thought to himself clenching his fingers within his teeth, "Drat! I think she's onto me! If I slip up one more time, I could be hanging in the middle of the town square!"

Autumn cocked an eyebrow. "Riiiiight." she said, folding her arms. "Well, seeing as how you're a 'skilled businessman', do you think you could find anyone to buy all this...stuff? I mean, sure, it works..."

She picked up a strange contraption, round, with wires all about it like spokes, and a small hole in the center. Autumn slammed it down an apple with alarming force, and the fruit split neatly into slices.

"...but my reputation precedes me, if ya know what I mean. No one in their right mind has anything to do with crazy inventors."

"Yeah... inventors... crazy... yup... Hey, I know a place that gives a good profit!" He said with a sly look on his face. "I know this guy that will pay a fortune for this stuff! How about this... when you go to sleep tonight, I'll just take what you need, and give you what you have earned! Does that sound linke a plan?"

Autumn eyed him skeptically. "Yeah, y'see...slight problem..."

She narrowed her eyes. "I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid. I wasn't born yesterday."

She drummed her fingers on the table. "Buuuuut, I AM willing to make a deal."

"Woah woah, what do you mean 'a deal?' It doesn't involve anything dangerous, does it? I mean, even though I'm a business man or what-not, I DO have several enemies roaming through the streets... What's the matter with me just taking it in the middle of the night?"

Griffen was getting cross... He didn't want to be caught, but he didn't want to get involved with another useless person. He wanted what he want, and he wanted it now. Griffen had very little patience.

Autumn sighed, "I'm not much for night-business. Running about in the shade of evening looks--well, shady. If you want to take my stuff to some sort of market in the daytime, then I'm game. I'll sit here and crank the stuff out, you sell it, and we'll split the sales three ways."

He thought to himself for a couple of seconds. Then it hit him! "Woah, what's wrong with me?!" He thought, "I'll just wait until she's asleep! I'll call off the deal, stay the night, and then take what I need, dispose of any evidence, and be on my way!"

He stood there dwelling on his stupidity.

"Three ways? Aren't there two of us? And by the way if you don't mind me asking... When do you usually turn in for the night? I mean, just in case I'm called off for business, y'know?"

"Well, Pen checks in every so often, so that's why I say three. She drops by unnannounced. Says she's looking out for me. She'd be game to help you sell the goods. But I think Pen said something about a haunted house, so she's probably off chasing poltergeists..."

Autumn sighed. "As for my curfew? Whenever I crash and fall asleep on the project I'm working on. Fairly early, actually."

"Hmmm... well, I was jus wondering," he replied.

Griffen sat up for several hours while he witnessed Autumn tinker with one of her inventions. It was now 2:00 AM and he was about to turn in.
